The goal of the project is to assist the government of Uzbekistan in solving environmental problems of the Aral Sea region by promoting innovative and sustainable bioagricultural technologies and best practices in afforestation, as well as strengthening bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Project objectives:
- Identification and creation of three pilot plots with a total area of 10 hectares for testing various innovative and sustainable bioagricultural technologies in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
- Conduct a “Climate Smart Business Incubator” competition to identify and fund initiatives and/or research conducted by NGOs, the private sector and academic institutions.
- Bilateral working group: Strengthening bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in order to expand cooperation in solving environmental problems of the Aral Sea
Expected results:
- To test various innovative and sustainable bioagricultural technologies, 10 plots with a total area of 3 hectares will be created in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
- Organization of the “Climate Smart Business Incubator” competition and financing of projects in the field of agribusiness.
- A strategy for attracting the private sector will be developed.
- Conducting an information campaign in Uzbekistan to increase public awareness of the environmental problems of the Aral Sea. Videos and promotional materials will be developed.
- To implement large-scale projects, all available technologies for monitoring and collecting data on soil and climate data will be introduced.
