The nationwide project “Yashil Makon”, aimed at increasing the level of greening in Uzbekistan, won the second international climate competition “Green Eurasia” in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, a Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.

As reported by the press service of the national Ministry of Ecology, the project “Yashil Makon” (“Green Space”) became the winner in the nomination “Agriculture and forestry in new climatic conditions”.

The Ministry of Ecology noted that the presentation on the work to increase the level of greening in Uzbekistan, carried out over five years, “left a warm impression on the members of the selection committee”.

In addition, the Central Asian University of Environment and Climate Change (Green University) in the capital won in the nomination “Enlightenment and education in the field of climate”. The competition was organized by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives jointly with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). In 2024, over 300 applications were received from 12 countries. The winners and finalists included 57 best climate practices from Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Iran, Egypt, Indonesia.

Recall that within the framework of the “Yashil Makon” project, 200 million tree and shrub seedlings are planted annually. In 2024, during control measures for the implementation of the program, numerous violations were identified, in particular, cases related to the falsification of seedlings, their planting without an irrigation system and tens of thousands of dead young trees.
