We are excited to announce the release of the Technical Compendium of Scientific Articles and best practices for addressing the challenges of the Aral Sea and its surrounding region. The Compendium developed within the framework of the USAID Environmental Restoration of the Aral Sea II Activity (ERAS-II) and the regional project ECO ARAL implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, GIZ GmbH), includes five thematic volumes.
This valuable resource brings together the research and best practices aimed at tackling the ecological issues faced by the Aral Sea region.
What’s inside? A comprehensive collection of five volumes, each focusing on key aspects: 1. Ecology and Natural Resources 2. Desertification and Land Degradation 3. Climate Change and Hydrometeorology of the Aral Sea Region 4. Biodiversity of the Aral Sea Basin 5. The Role of Water Resources in the Aral Sea Ecosystem
Volume 3 “Climate Change and Hydrometeorology of the Aral Sea Basin” highlights the region’s sensitivity to the effects of climate change, as evidenced by rising temperatures, melting glaciers, and shrinking water resources, emphasizing the urgent need for proactive adaptation measures. This volume delves into the complex interplay between climate change and hydrometeorology in the Aral Sea Basin, providing insights into changing climate dynamics and their impact on Central Asia. This compendium is intended for a broad audience, including researchers, policymakers, environmental NGOs, educators, students, and anyone interested in the issues surrounding the Aral Sea.
We hope that the collection will stimulate further research and contribute to the development of actions aimed at shaping a sustainable future for the Aral Sea basin.
If you have additional scientific articles or international reports related to climate change and hydrometeorology of the Aral Sea region, we will be glad to include this information in the next edition of the Compendium. For more information: ZHANNA.DOSSOVA@tetratech.com
