The Global forum on innovation for marginal environments (GFIME) organized by the international center for agricultural biodiversity (ICBA) in cooperation with the food security Administration of the UAE, the Department of advanced Sciences of the UAE, the Islamic development Bank (IDB) and the environmental protection Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) began on November 20 this year in the capital of the UAE, Dubai.

GFIME will serve as a platform to showcase the latest advances in research, innovation, development and policy in agriculture and food production in marginal settings, that is, in those areas of the world that are most vulnerable to climate change, water scarcity and salinity.

GFIME focuses on industrial development and agricultural innovation in the region – a priority for government and agribusiness in addressing climate, nutrition and food security issues. The forum brought together a select global audience of 250 influential politicians, policymakers, scientists and experts who are at the forefront of transforming agriculture and food production for tomorrow.

One of the invited participants of the forum was the director and deputy director of The International innovation center of the Aral Sea region under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan – N.Mirzamuratov and M.Ganiev respectively.

Taking a holistic approach including the entire agricultural value chain (government, business/industry, aid and development, and scientists/researchers), GFIME is the first of its kind in the region. Engaging international policymakers and decision makers over two days, GFIME participants will develop valuable policies, partnerships and projects, demonstrating the latest progress made in addressing threats to the marginalized environment. And the forum will provide a comprehensive overview of opportunities and challenges in agriculture and food production around the world.
