As part of an official visit to the Republic of Karakalpakstan, a delegation of the German Bundestag headed by the Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Hermann Färber, visited the International Innovation Center for the Aral Sea basin under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The delegation also included Bundestag members Christoph Frauenpreiss, Steffen Janich, Ina Latendorf, and Winfried Holz. The guests were accompanied by representatives of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Karakalpakstan.
The purpose of the visit was to become acquainted with the activities of the Center and with ongoing joint projects implemented in partnership with GIZ, aimed at supporting sustainable development, improving agricultural efficiency, and introducing innovative environmental solutions in the Aral Sea region.
During the visit, the delegation was presented with the Center’s scientific research and demonstration projects, as well as information on regional initiatives focused on ecosystem restoration and improving the living conditions of the local population. The delegation members also observed experiments and field trials at the research and production site, where innovative technologies are being developed and tested to restore the Aral Sea region’s ecosystems and to adapt agriculture to changing climate conditions.
The guests expressed their deep appreciation for the large-scale measures undertaken under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aimed at restoring ecological balance and improving the quality of life in the Aral Sea region. The delegation members emphasized the importance of programs addressing the consequences of the environmental crisis and creating new opportunities for sustainable regional development.
At the conclusion of the visit, both sides exchanged views on the prospects for further cooperation in science, ecology, and agrotechnology, expressing mutual interest in strengthening partnership relations between Uzbekistan and Germany.
