Following the successful training seminar in the Khodjeyli district, a similar event was held in the Kegeyli district within the framework of the international project “Development of sustainable agricultural systems in degraded areas of Karakalpakstan”.
The organizers of the seminar were the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea Region and the Karakalpak Research Institute of Agriculture, with the support of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
The seminar in the Kegeyli district brought together more than 130 participants, including farmers, representatives of dekhkan farms, owners of household plots, scientists and young specialists. The participants got acquainted with methods for increasing crop yields on saline lands, the introduction of water-saving technologies and the adaptation of agriculture to climate change. One of the key moments of the seminar was the distribution of seeds of 12 types of promising crops that are resistant to salinity, which will help local farmers test new methods of plant cultivation.
A series of similar seminars in different regions of Karakalpakstan confirms the importance of an integrated approach to restoring the region’s agriculture. Thanks to the support of international partners and the introduction of innovative solutions, farmers receive real tools to increase the productivity of their farms.
Representatives of the ICBA and the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea region expressed confidence that further expansion of the training and research program in the field of sustainable agriculture will help significantly improve the environmental and economic situation in the region.
