On January 20, 2025, a training session was successfully held in Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan, within the framework ofthe USAID project “Restoration of the ecosystem on the dried bed of the Aral Sea II” (ERAS-II). The event aimed to enhance the capacity of over 50 local farmers, researchers, and women engaged in household farming to independently apply innovative agro-bio solutions.
The primary goal of the training was to develop participants’ knowledge and skills in sustainable natural resource management methods. Special emphasis was placed on adapting solutions to the challenging conditions of saline and degraded lands, contributing to the restoration of ecological balance in the Aral Sea region and improving the region’s agro-economic situation.
Key topics of the training included:
- – Water-efficient irrigation technologies that enable efficient use of water resources in arid climates..
- – Organic fertilizers and sustainable farming methods that help to preserve soil health and ecosystems.
- – Intensive horticulture for arid and saline lands, aimed at increasing agricultural yields and resilience in challenging areas.
Experts from the International Innovation Center for the Aral Sea basin presented reports on the achievements of their work. In their speeches, they spoke in detail about innovative approaches and successful practices that have already proven their effectiveness in the difficult conditions of the Aral Sea region.
The event was an important step towards restoring the region’s ecological resilience and strengthening the knowledge and skills of the local community to address environmental and economic challenges.
