In 2025, Uzbekistan plans to launch a nationwide movement “One Million Green Families” to popularize an ecological lifestyle. This is envisaged by the draft presidential decree on the implementation of the state program for 2025.
The goal of the movement is to improve public health, form an ecological lifestyle, create conditions for realizing human potential and actively involve citizens in environmental initiatives.
To achieve these goals, the main principles of the movement are proposed to be:
- Promotion of daily walking (at least 10,000 steps) and running among the population.
- Promotion of the use of “green transport”, including bicycles.
- Reduction in the use of plastic products.
- Prevention of food waste.
- Rational use of water, gas and electricity.
The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change and the Ministry of Digital Technologies are planned to be instructed to launch a platform within the framework of the “One Million Green Families” movement by June 1, 2025.
The platform will provide for the assignment of the title “Eco-Active Citizen” to those who have achieved high indicators, with the following benefits:
- 10% discount on the use of public services.
- Discounts on consumer loans in banks where the state’s share exceeds 50%.
- In addition, families in which all adult members have the status of “Eco-Active Citizen” will be awarded the title of “Green Family”. Such families will be able to participate in an annual lottery in which 14 electric cars will be raffled off.
The movement also plans to hold competitions “The Cleanest Mahalla” and “The Greenest Mahalla” among mahallas where half of the residents have the status of “Green Family”.
The winners of the competitions will receive 500 million soums for:
- Construction of playgrounds.
- Creation of green parks.
- Arrangement of sites for waste collection and installation of garbage containers.
