A major step towards sustainability: The project to develop sustainable agricultural production systems in degraded areas of Karakalpakstan has been named the national winner of the prestigious Energy Globe Award 2024.
This success was made possible by the fruitful cooperation of several key organizations: the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, the International Innovation Center for the Aral Sea Region (IICAS) and the Karakalpakstan Agricultural Research Institute (KARI). Special recognition goes to the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) for its leadership, technical expertise and dedication.
The objective of this project: To develop and implement sustainable climate-resilient production systems for underdeveloped areas of Karakalpakstan, aimed at mitigating the impact of the Aral Sea environmental crisis and adapting to climate change.
The project, supported by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), is a shining example of effective international cooperation.
This success highlights the importance of a collaborative approach to addressing land degradation and sustainable development. We are confident that this project will become a global model, inspiring other countries to implement similar initiatives. We thank everyone who contributed to this significant project and look forward to presenting it on the international stage as part of the Energy Globe Award.
