COP29: Uzbekistan’s Green Traditions and Innovations in the Focus of International Attention

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) has kicked off in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, bringing together over 50,000 participants from 198 countries.

This landmark event has become a key platform for agreeing on international climate commitments and discussing measures to prevent the most serious impacts of climate change. COP29 will focus on financing issues, as it is critical for countries to secure the trillion-dollar investments needed to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect lives and livelihoods from the growing impacts of climate change.

As part of the conference, 150 countries and organizations presented their thematic pavilions in the blue zone of the Baku Olympic Stadium, of which more than 70 were national pavilions of the parties to the convention.

The National Pavilion of Uzbekistan, located in the central part of the exhibition center, was visited by more than 1,000 delegates on the first day of the event. Among the distinguished guests were: Azerbaijani public figure Leyla Aliyeva, Deputy Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Viorell Gutu, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Nasynbayev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTG) K. Omuraliev, representatives of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).

The Uzbekistan pavilion, built using sustainable, traditional materials and methods adapted to the country’s climate, reflects traditional patterns and elements such as adobe plaster, aivan and tapchan. Together, they embody cultural values such as care for nature, family traditions and a sense of comfort in the Uzbek home.

The pavilion made a great impression on the distinguished guests and delegates. In particular, Leyla Aliyeva expressed special interest in the cultural heritage and environmental achievements presented in the pavilion. She was also struck by the scale of the Aral Sea disaster and impressed by the reforestation work carried out on its dried bed. In turn, K. Omuraliev, especially noted the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to create the Environmental Council of the United Territory Territories and expressed gratitude for the readiness of Uzbekistan to hold the first meeting of ministers responsible for environmental issues of the United Territory Territories in the National Pavilion of Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan’s participation in COP29 demonstrated the country’s commitment to global climate goals and readiness for international cooperation. The pavilion became a place not only for discussing important environmental issues, but also for exchanging experiences and cultural values that unite the peoples of the region in the fight against climate change.
