Within the framework of the GIZ project “Environmentally oriented regional development of the Aral Sea region”, a visit of GIZ representatives from Germany to the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea region took place. The delegation included representatives of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Kallweit Michael Gunter and Pfemeter Johannes, as well as specialists from the GIZ head office in Germany – Unsöld Rebecca and Julia Au.
The purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the projects implemented in the Republic of Karakalpakstan in partnership with ECO ARAL and IICAS. The guests were thoroughly acquainted with the activities of the Center, its infrastructure and innovative approaches to the environmental development of the region.
One of the key moments of the visit was getting acquainted with the experimental site for growing salt-tolerant licorice. This project, supported by GIZ, is aimed at introducing new methods of agricultural production in saline soils, which is an urgent task for the Aral Sea region. The guests highly appreciated the genetic seed bank created by the Center, which plays an important role in preserving biodiversity and sustainable development of local agriculture.
An equally important project that was presented to the German specialists is the innovative artificial breeding of Artemia cysts using the pond cultivation method. This project is of great importance for maintaining the ecological balance and economic development of the region, since Artemia products are in demand both in the food industry and in aquaculture.
The guests were accompanied by Deputy Director of the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea Region K. Idirisov, who spoke in detail about the Center’s successes in implementing projects, as well as the importance of partnership with GIZ for the sustainable development of the Aral Sea region.
The visit of GIZ representatives from Germany was an important step towards further strengthening international cooperation and implementing environmental projects aimed at restoring and developing the Aral Sea region.
