Visit of representatives of the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development

The International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea region was visited by responsible representatives of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ), who oversee cooperation with the countries of East and Central Asia. The purpose of their visit was to assess the quality and current progress of the projects implemented in cooperation with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in the Aral Sea region.

During the meeting, two key projects were presented:
Creation of an experimental site for growing medicinal and salt-tolerant licorice in the Aral Sea region – a joint GIZ project. The main goal of the project is to study the economic potential of a sustainable licorice production chain, which can help strengthen the agricultural sector of the region.
A pilot project for breeding Artemia cysts using an innovative pond method – is being implemented in partnership with GIZ and is aimed at developing innovative aquaculture methods, which opens up new opportunities.

The project coordinators presented the results, discussed the difficulties that arise and proposed specific steps for the further development of these initiatives. Particular attention was paid to the economic benefits for the region that could be obtained as a result of the successful implementation of these projects.
