With the support of the US Embassy in Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, from September 21 to October 12, 2024, the delegation of Uzbekistan headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Karakalpakstan Oteuliyev A. is making a business trip to the United States of America, within the framework of the state project “Climate-Optimized Sesame Growing”. The delegation includes government representatives, leading scientists from higher education institutions, as well as B. Khabibullaev, Director of the Aral Sea International Innovation Center.
The purpose of the visit is an in-depth study of modern agricultural technologies that can be applied in sesame cultivation in Uzbekistan. Particular attention is paid to the following aspects: • Introduction of advanced methods of sowing, harvesting and irrigation of agricultural crops; • Study of sesame varieties suitable for mechanized harvesting; • Application of digital technologies and remote sensing to improve farm management and optimize marketing decisions; • Introduction to innovative technologies for storage, transportation and processing of agricultural products, as well as studying the experience of promoting sesame in international markets. • Development of international cooperation.
At the moment, the delegation of Uzbekistan is in Washington, Washington State. As part of the visit, a meeting was organized with representatives of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), the US Department of Commerce and the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA).
These meetings are organized by the Meridian International Center, which actively promotes international cooperation through educational and diplomatic programs. During the briefings, participants share experiences and information on such key issues as:
- The role of the US federal government in supporting agricultural production;
- Programs that promote sustainable agricultural development;
- Contribution of non-governmental organizations to the development of climate-smart agriculture
As part of the visit, the delegation is also scheduled to travel to the cities of Los Angeles, California, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Austin, Texas, and Jacksonville, Florida.
This visit is an important step in the implementation of the project on growing climate-smart sesame in Uzbekistan, which is aimed at introducing advanced technologies to increase the sustainability of agricultural production in the face of climate change.
