On September 18, 2024, the USAID/Central Asia Regional Mission’s Environmental Protection Team visited the pilot sites of the International Innovation Center for the Aral Sea Region, the Aral Sea Dried Seabed Ecosystem Restoration Project II (ERAS-II).
The purpose of the visit was to assess the quality and progress of the work being carried out at the project sites in the Nukus and Muynak districts, as well as on the dried seabed of the Aral Sea. The ERAS-II project, implemented by Tetra Tech ARD Inc., is aimed at restoring the ecosystem of the dried-up region and improving the environment in the Aral Sea region. The project plays a key role in reducing the consequences of the Aral Sea environmental disaster, contributing to the restoration of biodiversity, improving soils, and increasing resilience to climate change.
The ERAS-II project, implemented jointly by USAID and the International Innovation Center for the Aral Sea Region, also actively engages local communities by providing jobs and training local residents in land restoration technologies aimed at long-term restoration and supporting the sustainable development of the region.
