China’s experience in ecosystem protection is being studied

Consistent and effective cooperation has been established between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the People’s Republic of China in many areas, especially in the fields of ecology, environmental protection, and climate change.

For information, on November 3, 2007, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the State Environmental Protection Administration of the People’s Republic of China. In 2019, an agreement was signed between the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea Region (IIIC) under the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (XIEG) to develop research partnerships in the Aral Sea region.

In November 2023, a visit was organized by the Chairman of the China National Society for the Control of Sand and Desert Industry, An Fengji, to participate in the 21st meeting of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (CRIC-21), which was another important step in strengthening cooperation.

It should be noted that during the meeting between An Fengji and the Minister of Ecology Aziz Abdukhakimov, issues of land degradation and sustainable land use were discussed, including the exchange of experience and the implementation of joint research activities in regions of Uzbekistan with a high level of risk of dust and sand storms. As a result, an agreement was reached to establish close cooperation in the near future through the development and signing of a Memorandum on scientific and practical cooperation in the field of combating desertification and land degradation.

Also in 2023, representatives of the Ministry of Environment took part in training programs to exchange experience in China, which allowed employees to expand their knowledge and skills. In addition, today China cooperates with international platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Conservation Program (GSLEP). In addition, a draft Agreement on cooperation in the field of environmental protection is being developed with China.

For information, China is one of the leading countries in implementing environmental projects that help protect fertile soils from the negative impacts of nature. The Republic also has extensive experience in combating desertification and restoring ecosystems. In particular, over the past 10 years, as part of the Three North project, the forest area has increased to 33.3 million hectares.

Let us remind, that earlier, an electric car that transportsgarbagewas brought from China to Uzbekistan for the first time. Also, issues of the construction of environmentally friendlybuildingsand waste recycling were discussed with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of China and Uzbekistan.
