The 21st session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (CRIC 21) will take place from November 13th to 17th, 2023, at the Silk Road Congress Center in Samarkand. The event will include consultations of affected country Parties on the implementation of the Convention for Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Northern Mediterranean, as well as Central and Eastern Europe. During CRIC 21, Parties will review the implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in accordance with the Strategic Objectives of the UNCCD Framework Strategy for 2018-2030 and its implementation framework with a view of providing targeted recommendations. Updates on specific activities supporting Parties in their voluntary Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) target-setting efforts and on how they advance action towards implementation with the support of the Global Mechanism and relevant Partners, including the LDN Fund will be also presented. Additionally, as part of CRIC 21, the Intergovernmental Working Group on effective policy and implementation measures for addressing drought will present its progress report. In accordance with decision 7/COP15 (Annex I), joint consultations will also be conducted to provide recommendations and an independent assessment to identify possible future actions for further enhance the implementation of the UNCCD Strategic Framework for 2018-2030. In response to the requests of the Parties, the session will facilitate interactive exchanges of views among the Parties and their partners.
