Under the leadership of the Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regular work has begun to create green spaces on the drained bottom of the Aral Sea. In recent years, large-scale work has been carried out to mitigate the negative consequences of the drying up of the Aral Sea, create green spaces on the dried seabed, restore the ecosystem in the Aral Sea region, develop socio-economic indicators, and improve the living standards of the population. During the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Karakalpakstan on November 15-16, 2018, a number of tasks were set to create “Green covers” – protective forests on the dried bottom of the Aral Sea. In this direction, practical work has begun to improve the environmental situation in the region, to prevent the removal of harmful salts and dust into the air from the Aral Sea. On January 30, under the leadership of the Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Amanbay Orinbaev, the 2023 sowing season started. At the opening ceremony of the event, the chairman of the Jokargy Kenes spoke and wished success to all the workers in their difficult and at the same time significant work. Also during the event, valuable gifts were presented to employees of the Forestry Committee of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the Department of Emergency Situations and a number of machine operators for their organizational work on sowing. Every year, thousands of machines and mechanisms, 4 aviation units and more than 2,500 workers are involved in collecting seeds and creating protective plantations in order to create “green covers” on the drained bottom of the Aral Sea. In order to continue such large-scale work this year, it was decided to carry out seed and sowing work on the drained bottom of the Aral Sea, as well as work to create forest plantations on a total of 100 thousand hectares, with the help of aviation and equipment. Today, work on this initiative has begun, and the region is planted with drought-resistant plants such as saxaul, kandym, karabarak and cherkez. In this regard, the idea that “Even if the sea retreats, people will not retreat” is being put into practice.
