On March 24, 2022, a tripartite memorandum on the green and innovative zone of the Aral Sea was signed between the National Research University “Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers”, the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea basin under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. As one of the areas of cooperation indicated in the memorandum, the joint organization of international seminars, scientific conferences, and other seminar events, and the training of scientific and technical personnel are indicated. As part of this memorandum, on December 16, 2022, in the city of Nukus, the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea basin under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an international forum of young scientists was held on the theme “The path to the green Aral Sea: innovation and cooperation” Forum initiators : – Association to Combat Desertification of the International Alliance of Scientific Organizations (ANSO-ACD) – ANSO Green Aral International Scientific Initiative Program Office (ANSO IPO) – Uzbek-Chinese joint main laboratory of ecobiomes of arid lands. Organizers: – International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea Region under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (IICAS) – Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, CAS (XIEG), – Tashkent National Research University, Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIIMSE) – Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan Purpose of the forum – support the green and sustainable development of the Aral Sea through science and technology, the forum will provide a platform for international exchange and cooperation for young talents committed to the sustainable development of the Aral Sea basin, share the latest trends in scientific and technological development, promote interaction and integration of disciplines, encourage more outstanding young scientists to devote themselves to innovation in the development of the green Aral Sea and provide support to talents for the ecological management of the Aral Sea. At the forum, two world-renowned experts in the field of resources, ecology, and the environment delivered academic lectures on the topic of the event and shared the latest achievements of science, their experience, and achievements. At the meeting of the youth forum, 9 young scientists under the age of 45, engaged in scientific work in the field of sustainable development of the Aral Sea basin, green and innovative technologies, delivered an academic lecture. The forum was also attended by representatives of Jokargy Kenes and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, relevant ministries, committees, universities, research institutes, and other organizations. Within the framework of the round table held within the framework of the forum, experts and government representatives participating in the forum exchanged views and jointly discussed the scientific and technical needs of the Aral Sea nature management, how to increase the potential of young scientists and what role young scientists can play in the development of innovations in the Aral Sea sea, and interviews with young participants. As a result of the forum, it was possible to raise the scientific level through the exchange of ideas and discussions. Also, 2 candidates of young scientists were selected to identify outstanding scientific and technical talents and excellent innovative projects, to train young leading specialists for the sustainable management of the Aral Sea basin. They were awarded the “A way to the green Aral Sea: Innovation and Cooperation” award, and (XIEG) committed to funding their short-term internship in China.
