Sustainable and integrated management of water resources and soils is crucial for the sustainable development of society. It is necessary not only to pay special attention to the joint research of possible solutions for the sustainable management of these resources, but also to the appropriate training of young scientists in universities. In this regard, on August 15, a delegation headed by the director of the Institute of Soil Science Georg Guggenberger, students of the Hannover University named after A.I. Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (Germany). Students and young scientists in the course of their research will directly touch upon such problems as water scarcity, soil degradation, threats to food security which are becoming more and more evident in Central Asia and Germany. Particularly promising in this context is the joint analysis of the current state of affairs in the field of soil and water management, as well as the development of solutions on concrete examples on the spot within the framework of a study tour. The training practice will focus on the soil and water resources of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, their use and emerging environmental issues, as well as the development of more sustainable management options. The current study internship program is heavily oriented towards collaborative activities and interests in research and teaching. Not only LUH students, but also students from partner educational institutions take part in educational internships. Study stays are always developed in cooperation with partner institutions and take place consecutively in the host country and in Germany. During the meeting, an introductory presentation was held for students and teachers on ongoing projects of the innovation center with local and international organizations in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, then a plan for a trip to the drained bottom of the Aral Sea was discussed together with the staff of the Institute for Investments and Development, and to the research and production site “Muynak” where the project is being implemented. “My garden in the Aral Sea” (“My garden in the Aral Sea”) for planting your own trees. The main objectives of the training internship: 1) to convey to students how scientific knowledge in the field of ecology can be transferred to practical application in relation to the sustainable use of soils and water. 2) convey an understanding of the need for international cooperation for the sustainable development of societies. 3) motivate students to distinguish between the importance of local [eg nomadic pastoralism versus irrigated agriculture, arable land] and global [global changes, global food security] issues in the context of Central Asia. problems in the context of Central Asia. 4) build a transcultural bridge that will allow developing a network between students of participating universities. 5) to promote the exchange of students and researchers between participating universities. 6) cultural and geographical acquaintance with host countries through visits to historical sites.
