On February 28, in the Nukus region of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, a training seminar was held on the topic “Application of the innovative technology “Buried Diffuser” in irrigation in irrigation” for farmers and representatives of relevant government agencies. The training was initiated by the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea Region under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan as part of the implementation of the Joint Program of UNDP, UNFPA, and FAO “Promoting the creative and innovative potential of youth and vulnerable populations by strengthening their adaptive capacity to solve problems of economic and food security in vulnerable communities of the Aral Sea region”, funded by UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region in Uzbekistan. The training will continue until March 4, 2022. Buried Diffuser is an underground irrigation technology developed in Tunisia, where drought and its effects are known firsthand. This method makes it possible to halve the water consumption required for drip irrigation while increasing the yield by 3-5 times. It can be applied to irrigate trees, vegetables, and container plants. To conduct an introductory lecture and field training from Tunisia to Uzbekistan, the developer of water-saving technology Dr. Bellachheb Chahbani. The participants of the event were introduced to the innovative technologies developed by Dr. Chahbani for the efficient and sustainable use of water in irrigation, as well as to mitigate the effects of drought and adapt to climate change. Among the key topics of the seminar are the features of working with a subsoil diffuser, irrigation water filtration and distribution systems, gravity injection of liquid fertilizers, the atmospheric air supply to irrigation water, and intelligent systems for controlling water supply during irrigation, and many others. The system uses wireless sensor and transmitter technology During the master class and the field training, the participants were shown the process of installing and operating a recessed diffuser for irrigating vegetables and fruit trees, as well as for supplying and storing water in deep soil layers to combat prolonged droughts. It should be noted that this Buried Diffuser technology is used in the Central Asian region for the first time. It is expected that the five-day seminar and training will increase the knowledge of local farmers and representatives of relevant government agencies about innovative agricultural practices and the benefits of their application in practice in the arid conditions of the Aral Sea region.
