From 9 to 11 October 2019, academic scientists, policy makers and practitioners with knowledge of the region’s indigenous and local populations gathered in Almaty, Kazakhstan, for the Central Asian regional TRIALOG on land degradation, biodiversity and climate change. The event was part of the biodiversity and ecosystem services Network (BES-Net) initiative, managed by the UNDP Global policy centre on sustainable ecosystems and desertification. From the International innovation center of the Aral sea basin participated: Abdirov A, Asanov I – head and chief specialist of the Department of land reclamation and water management, Sh.Khozhanazarov-leading specialist of the Department of research and innovation. The TRIALOG was organized by the Ministry of ecology, geography and natural resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and with the financial support of the Federal Ministry of environment, nature protection and nuclear safety (BMU) of Germany.
The TRIALOG targeted six countries of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in Central Asia: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Was attended by experts working in the field of agriculture, environment, health, climate, and related fields. During the TRIALOG, participants jointly reviewed the regional report and the key messages of the two interlinked IPBES thematic assessment reports:
– Thematic report on land degradation and restoration assessment
– Thematic report on the assessment of pollinators, pollination and food production
Participants assessed the relevance of regional and IPBES reports in relation to ongoing efforts to achieve SDG 15.3 / land degradation Neutrality (LDN) and other land-related SDG goals.
At the end of the Trilogy, a high-level segment was held on 11 October to present the preliminary results of the Trilogy to high-level government bodies, donors and partners.
According to the reports and data received, the “International innovation center of the Aral sea basin under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan” will carry out further work in the Aral sea basin.
