Desertification is one of the most serious scourges in many of the environmental problems facing humanity today. The Central Asian basin is one of the areas with the largest areas of desertification. Over the past 100 years, the Aral sea basin in Central Asia has undergone severe environmental degradation, such as drying up of the Aral sea, soil salinization and desertification.

Since the 1960s, the problem of the Aral sea basin has attracted the attention of researchers around the world. Studies related to the drying up of the Aral sea are of great importance for the establishment of the Green belt and road initiative and the implementation of the cooperation mechanism to combat desertification within the framework of the Green belt and road initiative.

In order to strengthen ties, exchange and cooperation between research institutes of Uzbekistan and the Academy of Sciences of China, the Director Of the “international innovation center of the Aral sea basin” N. Mirzamuratov was invited by the Director of the “Xinjiang Institute of ecology and geography” Jianqiang Li to the International seminar on combating desertification in the Aral sea, which takes place on September 24-28 this year in Qingdao, Shandong province. At this time, the Director of the center N. Mirzamuratov participates at the seminar in the discussion for improving the project “Measures to combat desertification, containment and prevention in the Aral sea”, which was conducted by the research group from China.
