On May 3, 2019,there was a meeting held in the office of the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea region with the participation of the Director of the Center Nurlibek Mirzamuratov and specialists of the Center, with representatives of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (RECCA), in particular, with the Program Manager for Water Initiatives Support for the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (RECCA) Ekaterina Strickeleva, Iskandar Abdullayev, Advisor to the Cluster of Innovations and Research.
In the meeting there was discussed issues of expanding cooperation to further ensure innovative solutions to water and environmental problems, by creating a bridge between representatives of science, practice and politics, and also discussed the implementation of pilot environmental projects to prevent the negative effects of the Aral disaster, improve the ecosystem and sustainable livelihoods and possible options for attracting international funding organizations.
Further, the delegation of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (RECCA), together with the leaders and specialists of the Center, as well as with representatives of a number of ministries and departments, visited the experimental site of the Center in the Nukus district the village assembly of sitirens of Samanbay (VAC “Samanbay”), where they got acquainted with the course of sowing and cultivation of salt and drought-resistant plants on experimental and demonstration plots, with the aim of conducting on them scientific, practical and innovative research.
A round table was held at the headquarters of the experimental site of the Center in Nukus district (VAC Samanbay), where the deputy director of the International Innovation Center of Aral region for science and production M.Sh. Ganiyev noted in his speech the importance of developing projects to solve serious problems on the dried bottom of the Aral Sea, on the results of work to mitigate the effects of the Aral Sea problem in different directions.
The representative of the main body of RECCA, Ms. Ekaterina Strickeleva, spoke about the activities of RECCA in the region, the development of the organization’s relations at the regional level, the strategic plans for regional cooperation in the field of science through the development of work with higher educational institutions of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
Advisor of the Cluster of Innovation and Research – Iskandar Abdullayev, proposed the creation of a working group to monitor the promotion of innovative projects, since the main tasks of the Cluster of innovation is to promote science, provide advanced knowledge in production, create tools for scientists and decision makers.
In the future, this meeting will contribute to the development of further cooperation between the Aral Sea Center and RECCA and the Cluster of Innovations and Scientific Research on the solution of environmental issues in the region.
