On March 10, 2019, The International Innovation Center for the Aral Sea Basin under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting with the representatives of the Japanese delegation – Professor of Kyoto University, Water Resources Specialist of the Water Resources Research Center – Kenji Tanaka, and Tohoku University Associate Professor, Satellite Observation Specialist – Yoshiya Toge accompanied by Kristina Toderich, Head of the Regional Office of the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture for Central Asia and the Caucasus (ICBA-CAC) on 10th March, 2019. The meeting was held in the framework of the program of the regional representative office of the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture ICBA-CAC at the production site of the Aral Sea Basin located at the assembly of citizens «Samanbay», Nukus district. Guests from Japan got acquainted with seedlings of salt and drought-resistant crops, which are grown at the nursery of the International Innovation Center.
Japanese scientists plan to carry out joint activities for the further implementation of joint targeted work in the Aral Sea basin. In particular, the issue of the organization of a hydrometeorological station in Muynak district wasunder discussion. In addition, they discussed the possibility of building a greenhouse, working at the expense of alternative energy sources and the creation of technology that promotes the release of salts and herbicides from saline sand on the dried bottom of the Aral Sea.
